Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz is still in hospital after pulling out of the Spain squad on Monday evening.
Fabian was ruled out of Napoli’s 4-2 win against Udinese with the flu, and the symptoms did not clear up in time for Spain’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Norway and Malta.
“Although things sometimes happen at the worst time, I always look on the bright side of life,” he wrote on Instagram.
“I hope this is just a setback and that this is the first call-up of many. I wish good luck to my teammates for the two games they’ll play.
“Thanks go to Luis Enrique and the national team for their belief in me and all of you for the amount of support you’ve shown me. See you next time!”
The post was complemented by a picture of the 22-year-old in a hospital bed, giving a thumbs-up to the camera.
The former Real Betis man has scored five goals in 28 appearances for the Partenopei this season.
